Big Picture: Vision Activity

Think about a student who will begin Kindergarten at Miller in 2010. Think about the same student graduating from Aurora High School June 2023.
What kind of skills will this graduate possess after completing the K-12 Physical Education curriculum?

High School Vision:
~Students be able to know and understand the importance of physical fitness as is correlates to quality of life.
~ Students need to be able to use exercise equipment, develop a fitness plan, and understand target heart rate zones to produce a training effect.
~Students should be in healthy zones in fitness testing and have the understanding of fitness to be able to stay there.
~Be able access information on fitness and fitness related topics.

For the middle school level, we want our kids to understand the concepts and areas of fitness. The areas being flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and cardiovascular endurance. The concepts being the FITT principle (frequency, intesity, type, and time). We want all of our students to leave the middle school in the Healthy Zone for all areas. We want students to be able to set and achieve fitness goals. We also want students to have the opportunity to explore a variety of different activities in order to find lifetime activities that they enjoy - while acting socially responible and cooperatively.

As students leave K-5 grades, they will understand that physical activity consists of movement, sports, and basic health and fitness. Physical education is a place to learn and grow socially, emotionally and physically.

At the end of a students time at Aurora we would like them to be able to:

Work out within their target heart rate zone

Find a lifetime activity that they enjoy and can participate in throughout their life.

Create a physical fitness plan for themselves.

All students should leave Aurora within the healthy zones for all assessed fitness areas

Literate consumers of the health and fitness field

Understand the importance of nutrition, fitness, exercise, and recreation in their life.

Be able to accesses information and options for places to work out and be fit.

Learn how to properly use fitness equipment.

Understand fitness components (muscular strenght, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, and flexibility.)

Be able to set and acheive goals

Our students will be socially responsible in acitvity settings.
They will also demonstrate respect for others in activity settings.
